How We Review Wellness Devices at DrummRoll Wellness

DrummRoll Wellness exists because the market for frequency-based wellness technology (that is, devices that use electromagnetic fields, heat, light, sound, or radiofrequency to support the body) is full of big claims and thin explanations. Before we recommend anything, or sell anything, we want you to know exactly how we got there.

What we mean by “frequency healing”

It’s a broad category, not just one technology. Pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) devices, terahertz-frequency devices, radiofrequency (RF) devices, far-infrared heat, red and infrared light therapy, vibroacoustic or percussion devices; also sound-based approaches like binaural beats are all, technically, “frequency” devices; but they work through different mechanisms and don’t always have the same amount of research behind them. Treating them as one interchangeable category is how a lot of sites in this space end up way too vague. We’d rather split the modalities and brands apart, then tell you what’s actually known about each one.

How we build a review

Every review starts with the manufacturer’s own documentation — user manuals, specifications, the compliance and safety certifications a device actually carries (CE, FCC, and similar marks, where applicable). That tells us what a device is, before we’ve looked for evidence it works.

For the “does it work” part, we go to the published research on the underlying modality. That is generally safer rather than looking at marketing copy and personal testimonials, though we will feature real customer testimonials separately as they come in. Where we can, we compare a device against similar products from other brands on spec and feature alone, even in cases where we haven’t tested a competing product hands-on ourselves. We’ll always say plainly when a comparison is based on published specs rather than side-by-side testing, so you know exactly how much weight to put on it.

Where the evidence is strong, and where it isn’t

Some of what we cover has a substantial research base behind it. PEMF for joint and soft-tissue pain, radiofrequency for musculoskeletal and circulatory use is a good example. Red and infrared light for recovery, far-infrared heat, grounding and earthing all have real systematic reviews and clinical trials backing at least some of their claimed uses. Others are newer or thinner on the ground in terms of studies. Terahertz-frequency devices and sound-based brainwave entrainment fall into this group. We’re not going to pretend the evidence is the same across the board just because it would make for a tidier pitch. When we cover something with limited research, we’ll say so, cite what does exist, and let you draw your own conclusions rather than drawing them for you.

What we won’t do

We won’t tell you a device will treat, cure or replace medical care for any condition. Nothing here is medical advice and nothing on this site should be read as a diagnosis or a prescription. If you’re managing a health condition, that conversation belongs with your doctor. We are here to help you understand a category of technology and do not replace clinical care.

Where the money comes from

DrummRoll Wellness sells a small range of what we consider the best devices directly. We’re upfront about which reviews cover products we sell versus products we’re simply discussing for context or comparison. Where we point you toward other brands or services we don’t sell ourselves, say, for a category we don’t have a product in yet, we’ll make that clear too. If that ever involves an affiliate relationship, we’ll disclose it plainly rather than let a link speak for itself.

Questions about a specific device

If you want to know more about the FDA status of the devices we carry, how compliance marks like CE and FCC work, or anything else about how a specific product is classified, we’ve written that up separately rather than burying it in every review. See our explainer on FDA registration vs. approval and get more details in the compliance section of each individual product review.

If you’d rather talk it through with us rather than just read about it, you can contact us to book a Zoom call, arrange a visit to your office or ask about hosting a demo for a group of friends, whichever suits you.
